Rack it up: in lieu of cabinets, the owners installed a handy plate rack. it not only functions well, but it adds character, especially with its molded edge.

Don’t forget the details: Delicate lampshades pick up the colors from the range backsplash, window treatment, and the dishes.

Create a focal point: The highlight of this traditional kitchen is the range area. Outfitted with an elegant tile backsplash, a useful pot-filler extending from the wall, and a ventilation system that is camouflaged by a pediment and corbels, the range is certainly a conversation starter.

Frame your views: A roman shade allows light to come in and gives a touch of color to the room.

In hiding: To give this kitchen a traditional look, the owners covered their dishwashers with panels. They appear as part of the cabinetry.

Three kitchens, three styles —
all with great ideas!

over the last decade, the kitchen has really become the heart of the home. it’s the place where meals are prepared and, of course, eaten; where friends and families gather during parties; a convenient spot for paying bills; and even an area where kids do their homework. Gone are the days of the small galley kitchen. today’s luxury spaces include appliances worthy of top chefs, elegant plumbing and lighting fixtures, plenty of storage and seating, and often times even a small desk area. in this section, we feature three very different spaces. Although each kitchen has a distinct style, they all have one thing in common: they function as beautifully as they look. So, whether you like a sleek modern kitchen or one with more traditional details, take a look at these pages to glean inspiration for your own luxury kitchen.
